To know the pelvic floor is to experience the pelvic floor

One of the questions I ask my clients most often is, “What is your felt sense of your pelvic floor?”

Most of the time, the answer is a blank stare.

Many practitioners describe something similar in their own bodies: we learn the anatomy, the diagrams, the cues, and this region can still feel blurry from the inside.

Most of us were taught a two-dimensional model of a structure that lives and moves in three dimensions. The pelvic floor responds to breath, to pressure, to the position of the pelvis, and it behaves differently in stillness and in motion. This is happening inside every exercise you teach, in every body, through every breath.

This workshop brings that felt sense into focus.

Map the pelvis to the pelvic floor, in your own body first

Through guided somatic movement, you'll map your tailbone, sitting bones, and ASIS to your pelvic floor, and feel how this region responds in stillness, in motion, and in different postures and positions. You'll experience it in your own body first, and then learn how to guide clients into the same awareness.

You'll understand:

Why cues like “squeeze,” “lift,” and “lengthen” may be reaching only a small part of what the pelvic floor is doing in your client's system

How pelvic position, breath, and pressure shape what the pelvic floor can do, in motion and in stillness

How to use RYC® Method mapping tools with your clients, and language that can help them meet this region with curiosity and without shame

If you work with pregnant clients

Many birthing people go into birth with very little felt connection to their pelvis and pelvic floor. They're not used to mapping to it, and this is the part of the body they are about to ask everything of. Feeling connected to your pelvis, and safe in it, matters in birth. The mapping practices in this workshop give you a way to help pregnant clients build that connection before birth, and find their way back to it in recovery.

Lauren Ohayon

For more than 25 years, Lauren Ohayon has been teaching people how their core and pelvic floor actually work, through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond. Her method, Restore Your Core®, looks at the pelvic floor as part of a whole system: breath, ribs, pressure, gait, the nervous system, and habitual movement patterns.

She brought that same approach to teaching prenatal childbirth education in New York and to co-founding One Strong Mama (now Body Ready Method®), and today she trains doulas, midwives, physiotherapists, and movement professionals around the world. Her trainings are known for going deep into the why: practitioners feel the work in their own bodies first, and then guide their clients there.
