So much of what can make a birth long and hard is set long before labor ever starts.
A pelvic floor that has been gripping for years does not suddenly know how to lengthen and let go just because the baby is on its way.
Your client walks into her birth with the patterns she has been living in, and by then her body works with what it knows. Pregnancy is when you can change what it knows.
That preparation is a skill, and it can be learned.
"RYC® has completely changed my work as a birth pro. I understand bodies and their mechanics better. 100% of the clients I've worked with since learning RYC® Method tools have benefited from my knowledge of core and pelvic floor."

Why so many clients bring a chronically tight pelvic floor into their birth – and how that shapes how long and hard her labor is
The three levels of the pelvis her baby has to move through – the inlet, the mid-pelvis and the outlet – and what each one needs to open
Three tools from the RYC® Method birth prep toolkit, one for each level of the pelvis, that you can start using with pregnant clients right away
The cue for each move that helps your client feel her pelvic floor lengthen and let go – the exact skill her floor needs when it's time to push
For more than 25 years, Lauren Ohayon has been teaching people how their core and pelvic floor actually work – through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond. Her method, Restore Your Core®, looks at the pelvic floor as part of a whole system: breath, ribs, pressure, gait, the nervous system, neural pathways and habitual movement patterns.
That same approach to the core and pelvic floor is what she brought to teaching in-person prenatal childbirth education classes in New York, to guiding thousands of women to prepare and heal their bodies throughout their pregnancy, birth and recovery journeys, to co-founding One Strong Mama (now Body Ready Method®), and sits at the foundation of how her work prepares the body for birth. In the years since, Lauren has refined her own approach further into the RYC® prenatal pelvic floor tools and the proactive pelvic floor prep these tools come from. Today she trains doulas in her professional training and as a guest teacher for doula training, midwives, physiotherapists, and movement professionals around the world to replace hopelessness with body literacy and agency.
Lauren has been working and training her pros through a bio-psycho-social lens for decades with incredible results.
Her trainings are known for going deep into the why. Practitioners learn to feel the work in their own bodies first, and then guide their clients there. RYC® Professionals describe it as the missing piece from their original trainings.
have trained with Lauren. The three tools in this video come straight out of her RYC® Method, and you can use them with your very next pregnant client.
