I found RYC® when I began looking for resources to support several post-partum patients who were having issues with pain and pelvic floor function. My Yoga Therapy training program was sadly lacking in this important topic, and a friend suggested I follow Lauren on Instagram. As I watched her posts and explored the exercises and short practices she recommended, I realized (no surprise) that this method would benefit all my patients. As I went through the training I began using RYC® in one-on-one and group sessions with amazing results. In my therapeutic movement practice I work mostly with women, and whether they come to see me for support with post-partum challenges, low back pain, diagnosed pelvic floor dysfunction or other acute or chronic pain issues, RYC® offers a proven, progressive, empowering approach to feeling better. With attention, awareness, and careful guidance, we find the root of discomfort and return the body to a more balanced state. As we re-pattern movement and create stability, we begin to build resilience by slowly adding load and intensity. This work allows patients to build strength, increase mobility, improve function and performance, and yes, even reduce or eliminate pain.
As a practitioner and as a woman, here’s what I know: Having pain doesn’t mean you are broken. Having any other symptoms does not mean you are broken. The menstrual cycle is not a disease. Pregnancy, nursing, and post-partum life are not diseases. Peri-menopause is not a disease. Menopause is not a disease. Aging is not a disease. All stages of life should be celebrated and when appropriate, symptoms should be eased. And ultimately, we should remember how to connect with and listen to the wisdom of our bodies, to hear that quiet internal voice that is often drowned out by cultural and societal pressures and expectations. RYC® aligns perfectly with these values, and I’m honored to make it the forefront of my therapeutic movement practice.
